HAEMORRHOIDECTOMY



Hemorrhoidectomy is indicated for the treatment of internal and external hemorrhoids Grade III and IV, especially in patients who do not respond to other methods of treatment or those with extensive disease or persistent bleeding.

WHAT PREPARATION DO I NEED TO DO?
The hospital departament will usually give you instructions before your test. These commonly include:


  • The doctor sedate the affect zone, in this case the vein, or the doctor anaesthetized you to induce drowsiness, the anesthesia will help you to don´t feel any type of pain in the moment of the surgery.


  •    The patient is going to recive an enema, that is a procedure for clean the anus, rect and the lower part of the large intestine.


  • Don´t eat and drink for 12 hours before the surgery.


  • If you are taking any medications, tell to the doctor, specially the medicatios that can hamper the blood coagulation. The most common medications are: Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Naproxen.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER A HAEMORRHOIDECTOMY?


  •      Most people are ready to go home 1 or 2 days after surgery.


  •      You can´t go home alone, you need a friend or a family to take you home.


  •   The doctor will give you any medications to reduce the inflammation, specially AntiInflammatory drugs.


  •      It´s posible that you have more pain.


  •     The recovery should be in 6 weeks and 2 months.



IS HAEMORRHOIDECTOMY RELIABLE?

Haemorrhoidectomy is a good procedure to delete the hemorroides. Is so realiable, in a few cases the surgery could be wrong.


¿ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS OR COMPLICATIONS FROM HAVING A HAEMORRHOIDECTOMY?
The most common effects of this procedure are:

Infection, excessive bleeding, anal fissure, constipation, excessive discharge of fluid into the rectum, fever and Inability to urinate or defecate.
