SHORT DURATION
They provide quick and temporary relief. These
medications usually have effects at about 20 minutes or even less. Its effect
can last up to 6 hours. These medications are best for the treatment of sudden
asthma symptoms. Taken 20 minutes earlier may prevent symptoms, At the time of
an asthma attack, the patient should use this medication in one dose for the
second dose within 6 hours.
BETA2-ADRENERGIC AGONIST OF LONG DURATION
They are medications that are taken long term to control or prevent bronchoconstriction. They are not meant for quick relief. These drugs take longer to act, but are able to relieve constriction of the airways for up to 12 hours. At the time of an asthma attack, the patient should use this medication in one dose for the second dose within 12 hours.
